Founded in 1969 as a division of Kansas City Southern Industries, what is now DST Systems was established to develop an automated recordkeeping system for the mutual fund industry. Today we are the largest provider of third-party shareholder recordkeeping services in the financial services marketplace. The following timeline shows the evolution of our solution development through the years.

1969

  • Data*sys*tance introduces the industry’s first online mutual fund shareholder accounting system.

1971

  • First remote processing servicing provider.

1973

  • Data*sys*tance and State Street form Boston Financial Data Services.

1975

  • Money market fund support.

1977

  • Data*sys*tance officially changes its name to DST Systems, Inc.

1978

  • Automated interface to brokerage systems introduced.

1979

  • Laser printing for confirmations, statements and checks is introduced.

1983

  • Voice response system is introduced.

1984

  • Automated order flow from brokerage firms is established.

1985

  • Winchester Data Center is opened.

1989

  • First automated cash and check reconciliation becomes available.

1991

  • AWD® is introduced as an image enabled work management system.

1992

  • Transfer Agency and Defined Contribution recordkeeping are integrated.
  • International Financial Data Services is formed in the UK to expand service to the European market.

1993

  • FANMail is introduced to provide advisors and broker-dealer back offices transactional and position information.
  • IFDS Canada joins the DST family to offer services to expand services to Canadian markets.

1995

  • Recorded telephone calls are integrated with work management.

1996

  • Internet transaction and account inquiry support are integrated.

1998

  • DST Vision is introduced for use by financial advisors.
  • Same day cash management is introduced.

1999

  • Electronic delivery of prospectuses and statements is provided.
  • Speech recognition functionality is integrated into the core platform.

2001

  • High Speed Data Entry is introduced.

2002

  • Broker subaccounting solution becomes available.

2003

  • Short-term trader tracking is integrated into the core platform.

2004

  • The DST Recovery Center is opened.

2008

  • DST Retirement Solutions is established to meet the needs of defined contribution service providers.

2011

  • ALPS Holdings, Lateral Group, Intellisource Solutions, Subserveo, Newkirk Products and Finix Business Strategies join the DST family
  • DST Brokerage Solutions is established.

2012

  • Vision Professional is introduced to extend value to advisors.
  • Electronic new account opening solution is introduced.
